Could solar eclipse occurs at midnight? It's like a silly question. However, Knut Joergen Roed Oedegaard, an astrophysicist at the Norwegian Centre for Science Education, said the phenomenon was likely to happen and will happen at midnight today, June 1, 2011.
"It's probably like a contradiction to experience the eclipse of the Sun at night. But, this is what will be seen in the area of northern Norway, Sweden, and Finland on June 1 today," he said as quoted Spacedaily.com Oedegaard, Wednesday (1 / 6 / 2011).
How did it happen? Oedegaard say, when the northern hemisphere is experiencing summer, the Arctic region is experiencing the sun sank. So, in principle solar eclipse can occur at any time.
The eclipse will happen today is a partial solar eclipse. This eclipse is an eclipse of the Sun's first midnight after July 31, 2000 and the deepest since 1985. Local residents have to wait until the year 2084 to witness the midnight sun eclipses deeper.
Johny Setiawan, an astronomer at the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy, said, "The total solar eclipse can also occur in the middle of the night, as may happen on December 4, 2021 and December 15, 2039 at the south pole, where December is the season of 'hot' and the Sun did not never sink. "
For this eclipse, Fred Espenak of NASA Goddard Space Flight Center said other areas could also see, but not at midnight. Some of the region, among others, China, Siberia, Iceland, Alaska, Japan, North Korea, and Canada.
Areas of Reykjavik, Iceland, will experience the eclipse just before sunset today. While parts of China and Siberia would experience it on Thursday (02.06.2011) dawn tomorrow. Interestingly, according to space.com publication, China and Siberia region will experience first. So as if the eclipse began on June 2, 2011 and ends on June 1, 2011.
